How to style knitwear throughout the year

Four simple ways to style knitwear from summer to winter.

How to style knitwear throughout the year

Quick answer: Balance volume, repeat colors, and layer. That makes knitwear work all year round.

Knitwear looks its best when an outfit feels balanced, not when it uses the most styling tricks. Give the soft texture some space and the rest of the outfit one clear direction.

Start with the silhouette. Notice where the knit has the most volume, then balance it with simple bottoms, a visible waist or an easy layer. One small adjustment is often enough.

Four styling tips that make a difference

Choose one or two. You do not need to use them all at once.

01 · Silhouette

Balance the volume

An oversized sweater works well with straight jeans, a slimmer skirt or clean-lined trousers. Pair cropped knitwear with a higher waist.

02 · Shape

Show a little shape

Tuck a little of the knit in at the front, roll up the sleeves or leave the neckline visible. Small openings keep soft knitwear from feeling too heavy.

03 · Colour

Repeat one shade

Pick up a colour from your knitwear in your shoes, bag or the layer underneath. It brings the outfit together without everything having to match.

04 · Layers

Layer with simple lines

Let a T-shirt or shirt show beneath the knit, then add a straight-cut jacket or coat when the temperature drops.

An outfit often feels most considered when it has just one focal point.

If the knit has a bold colour or texture, keep the rest simple. If the knit is understated, let the shape, shoes or layers draw more attention.

One knit through four seasons

The same knit can work throughout the year. The pieces around it and the way you layer change the look.

Spring

Straight jeans, light shoes and a jacket that frames the knit.

Summer

Shorts or a skirt, with the knit over your shoulders when the evening turns cool.

Autumn

Straight-leg trousers, boots and shades from the same colour family.

Winter

A thin top underneath and a coat over the knit as a soft middle layer.

Make getting dressed simple

Choose the knit first, decide on the silhouette, then finish with one detail that brings the outfit together. The result feels considered yet relaxed, and is easier to wear again.

FAQ: which knitwear suits your outfit?

Choose the shape first, then the material. A sweater, a zip-up cardigan, and a cropped bolero offer three different ways to build an outfit.

01 · Half-zip sweater

Looking for a half-zip and stand-up collar?

Half zip knit sweater offwhite is oversized and cable-knit, featuring dark contrast stripes. Try it with straight-leg trousers and let the zipper determine how open the neckline is.

Material: 53% cotton, 37% acrylic, 7% polyamide, and 3% wool.

02 · Long cardigan

Do you want to be able to wear the knit fully open?

Blush cable zip cardigan pink has a full zipper, a folded collar, and a length hitting the upper thigh. Wear it open over a simple top, or closed as the main piece of your outfit.

Oversized; choose your usual size. Material: 60% cotton and 40% acrylic, with no wool in the material list.

03 · Volume and structure

Looking for an oversized sweater with balloon sleeves?

Chunky knit sweater pink ends at the hip and has wide balloon sleeves. A slimmer bottom allows the sleeves and the knit structure to take center stage.

Choose your usual size, or size down for less volume. Material: 70% acrylic, 15% polyamide, and 15% polyester.

04 · Short layer over a dress

Looking for knitwear that leaves the waist visible?

Light knit bolero offwhite has an open front and ends just below the bust. It is a short, body-hugging layer over a top or dress, with plenty of stretch.

True to size. Material: 53% viscose, 27% polyamide, and 20% polyester.

Is there wool-free knitwear at Laley?

Yes. Blush cable zip cardigan pink, Chunky knit sweater pink, and Light knit bolero offwhite have material lists without wool. Half zip knit sweater offwhite contains 3% wool. Always check the specific model and color; wool-free does not mean we can guarantee that a garment will not itch.

How do I choose between two sizes?

Use the size guide along with the fit advice on the product page. Oversized is part of the design, not a call to size up. For Chunky pink, the product page recommends one size down if you prefer less volume.
